Practical introduction to FROG: a tool to design and run collaborative learning scenarios in classes


With FROG, teachers can design lessons where students can work individually and collaboratively using rich tools and simulations, and share these lessons with other teachers.

FROG is an open-source tool developed at EPFL which lets teachers design collaborative learning scenarios, where students work individually, in groups, and as a whole class, using a variety of tools even including external tools like simulations and H5P components as well as media like videos and PDFs..

This practical workshop will take you from 0 to designing and running your own learning scenarios with your own students. You will also be able to download existing patterns and fully developed lessons planned by other teachers, as well as publish your own contributions.

We will give you an overview of the different activity types and tools that exist, how you can connect them together, and also discuss some of the useful learning patterns that you can express in FROG – including experiences from a Swiss middle-school that has been using FROG for half a year.

No technical skill is required. Please bring your laptop, and you are welcome to bring a specific topic or idea that you would like students to work on.

Working method:
Participants will all get accounts on FROG, and after a brief introduction will work on developing relevant scripts for their own classes. The goal is that they will leave the workshop ready to use FROG in their daily teaching.
